REVIEW |
January 4, 2002 Koji Tsuruta is probably best known for starring in the 1955 & 1956 movies "Samurai 1: Musashi Miyamoto", "Samurai 2: Duel at Ichijoji Temple" and "Samurai 3: Duel at Ganryu Island". He also was in the 1961 movies "The Secret of the Telegian" and "I Bombed Pearl Harbor". This CD is Vol. 2 and there are four volumes out there. This is the only one containing scores by Masaru Sato. The other three volumes are by the composers Seiichi Suzuki, Toshiaki Tsushima and Shunsuke Kikuchi. The music here is very good with some of the tunes having a samurai flavor to them but the rest are a good variety of styles. Surprisingly for Masaru Sato music, none of the tracks here have a jazz flavor to them. I really enjoyed this CD and am tempted to pick up the other three volumes. UPDATE: March 31, 2014 courtesy of Jolyon Yates. These are titles from an outlaw youth gang series from the late 60s-early 70s called FURYO BANCHO.
