After the “lavish” production of the Australian shot Ultraman: Towards the Future (under the direction of Farscape’s Andrew Prowse), this Los Angeles based production seems remarkably low-budget, even though Joe Viscosil handled the effects. At times decent, but more often horribly amateurish, it’s obvious the production team had the best intentions and the skimpiest budget. A lot of effort went to capture the feel of the original series. Sahahi’s music actually fares better on this CD, edited into three suites, than it does in the series where it is maniacally overused. One of the monster themes is used as a loop track in every episode! More pop driven than the large symphonic sound of the Australian series (was there ever a soundtrack for that one?), but really fun listen, especially the charged main theme used only for the last episode. Other tracks on the CD include dramas by the Japanese dubbing actors for Kai and Julie as well as sound effects.
