REVIEW |
February 06, 2004 Review courtesy of Sam Scali Judging from the back of the packaging, which features a reproduction of the GODZILLA VS. BIOLLANTE movie poster, this 1989 promo-only single was released as a tie-in for that film. Track 1, a re-recorded version of the main title from the first Godzilla film, was used on the BIOLLANTE soundtrack, but was originally taken from the 1986 album OSTINATO (K32X-7037/KICA-2212), which featured new recordings of some of Akira Ifukube's classic monster soundtrack themes. Track 2 is a synthesizer version of Ifukube's "Monster Zero March", performed by Makoto Inoue, and the final track is a synth interpretation of the classic Godzilla theme from 1964's GODZILLA VS. MOTHRA. Both recordings were originally released on Inoue's 1983 LP of Ifukube monster themes, titled GODZILLA LEGEND. The LP was later radically overhauled and remixed, with many additional tracks, for a 1986 CD release called GODZILLA LEGEND CHRONOLOGY 1 (K32X-7032). In 1991, the album reappeared in its original form as part of a 3-CD boxed set (along with 2 sequel albums plus bonus tracks), again titled GODZILLA LEGEND (KICA 72~4). Needless to say, this promo item is very hard to find. While the music is available elsewhere, the unique packaging makes the single an appealing addition to any Godzilla music collection |
