REVIEW |
This is number 45 in a series of Daiei Films movie scores, the last film in the original Gamera series. This is Kikuchi's best work, considering the film it was written for was a glorified clip show. While the studio may have been looking for a cheap way to release a new Gamera film without too many expensive visual effects, the framing story is quite compelling in the same way GODZILLA'S REVENGE was more a child's fantasy than a monster movie. Here, a young boy teams up with three beautiful alien super women (led by the amazonian Mach Fumiake) to battle an equally beautiful alien invader. If Kikuchi recognized this, than it provided ample inspiration to create a fun score, even with dated 70's guitar riffs. The new Gamera march is surprisingly catchy. -- David Hirsch -- |
