REVIEW

February 01, 2004

The title says it all. This is one of many "greatest hits" CD's on this site. This disc focuses on the second Godzilla series of films. If you are new to collecting this music or don't own many of the other CD's, then this is a great CD to start with if you can find it. This particular CD is put out by the U.S. company GNP Crescendo and should still be available at many retail and online stores at an inexpensive price.

The second volume of Godzilla music from GNP Crescendo features music from the films that comprise the Heisei era of Godzilla. Being that there are only seven films, the soundtrack is a lot less crowded compared to the first volume, and for the most part, each movie has roughly four to five tracks to represent the music.

The most glaring exception is Godzilla Vs MechaGodzilla II, which only has two tracks. Since the movie's music has a very short presence on the CD, fans are deprived of hearing Ifukube's theme for Rodan. On the plus side, they didn't skip over any movie, unlike the previous volume.

The soundtrack comes with a booklet filled with articles, movie information, and thumbnails of the original movie posters. The album ends with a bonus track of Neil Norman's rendition of Monster Zero March. The march's peppy sound clashes with the more somber tones of Heisei era, and it would have been more appropriate if they chosen something that was used in one of the films' score.
