REVIEW |
September 27, 2002 (Courtesy of Sam Scali) This CD is the third in the series of "a cappella" discs featuring Godzilla-related music, produced by an informal artists' collective called the "Bukimisha Weird Secret Society". Like the first two discs, most of the material was composed by Akira Ifukube, with all the musical parts painstakingly re-arranged and performed by a group of ten male vocalists. While the first disc focused mostly on music that already contained vocals in the form of native chants (such as the "Faro Island" theme from "King Kong vs. Godzilla"), and the second disc concentrated on Ifukube's marches, this volume features the famous theme music of individual monsters, such as Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah and many others. Like the previous two CDs, the vocal interpretations of these pieces are amazing. There is a distinctly humorous edge to the performances (clearly these guys are having a good time), but the integrity of the compositions remains intact. This approach may not be for everybody, but it's certainly a unique way of presenting this material, and is extremely well-done. Bukimisha CDs are available to non-Japanese buyers through BOOTH (The International Indie Art Marketplace) by using a proxy service or other intermediary: https://bukimisya-maal.booth.pm/ |
