REVIEW |
May 31, 2024 This CD-R is the fourth in a series of collections of a cappella railroad songs, some based on folk songs from around the world. The first track, "Pretend Train", is a brief but very catchy children's nursery rhyme composed by Tsuyoshi Inoue in 1932. This is followed by a similar-sounding track with lyrics that refer to Bukimisha. The next track, "Kamotsuresha no Uta (Dada Dan Da Da Dan)" is another popular children's song about a freight train. Bukimisha provide fun, vigorous performances of each of these charming songs. Next up are stirring vocal interpretations of two film cues composed by Akira Ifukube. The first, "Express Tsugaru and Godzilla" is from Ifukube's score to KING KONG VS. GODZILLA (1962), for a scene featuring Godzilla attacking a passenger train. The second cue is from GODZILLA VS. MECHAGODZILLA II (1993), which scores a scene where Mechgodzilla is shown flying above a high speed railway train. Bukimisha delivers not one, but two versions of a famous Italian song, The disc closes with "Railway Song", composed in 1900 by Miki Sasuke. At 18 minutes, it is by far the longest track, and, in addition to vocals, it features a rapid, shuffling drum beat and verses that go on and on - like the hypnotic, repetitive rhythm of a speeding train. Bukimisha are clearly having fun with these songs, and listeners of all ages are sure to find them irresistible.
