REVIEW |
January 4, 2002 Great sounding early CD of Akira Ifukube's Symphonic Fantasia suites. This music is also available on other CD's but this is one of the earliest versions. Lots of familiar Godzilla music along with music from some of his other scores. Even the last track, "Rondo in Burlesque for Orchestra", has variations on familiar pieces. All in all a great listening experience. Some additional information courtesy of Robert Storch: Updated Feb. 26, 2002 This is probably the first live performance of Akira Ifukube's Symphonic Fantasia No.1,2,3 (recorded on 8/5/83) to be released on an album (K20G-7169-70). This CD is the reissue of that LP. According to G-Fan issue #18, this may be the first performance of Symphonic Fantasia as well, since Akira Ifukube composed it in 1983. The booklet shows a photo of a conductor, which leads me to believe that it was not Akira Ifukube who conducted this concert. In my opinion, this is one of the best performances of Symphonic Fantasia (played generally faster then most versions), and is one of Akira Ifukube's personal favorites ("I think that the premiere performance in 1983 was the best for me", G-Fan #18). For people who can't find this CD, Symphonic Fantasia No.1 from this concert can be found on the "Godzilla Zoro Zoro" compilation found elsewhere on this site. |
