REVIEW |
December 19, 2003 It looks like the Ifukube baton for Godzilla movies has been passed. This is Michiru Ohshima's 3rd soundtrack out of the last four Godzilla films. It took me awhile to warm up to her music but I must say I think it gets better every time out. Like Ifukube she has established some themes that show up in each film to lend an aspect of continuity. And like Ifukube she doesn't overdo the repeated themes. I just recently received this disc and have only had a chance to listen to it once so far but I like what I'm hearing. This Soundtrack can easily grow on you. I also enjoyed the "Mothra" song on track 10. It was short, clocking in at 1:04 and not much different than what we've heard in other movies from other girl duos. Track 28 is an updated version of the same song and seems to maybe be a pop single version. The Infant Island "twin" fairies (or Shobijin) portrayed in the original Mothra movies by The Peanuts are played here by Masami Nagasawa and Chihiro Otsuka. Clocking in at over 75 minutes worth of music (including some sound effects), this is a full disc. I for one am looking forward to seeing this film when a version is available in the U.S.. |
