REVIEW

August 03, 2006 This is a double-CD set with CD 1 containing songs dedicated to the 2004 movie directed by Kazuaki Kiriya (Hikaru Utada's husband) and CD 2 containing the soundtrack by Shiro Sagisu and also includes the theme song by Hikaru Utada. This 2004 Live-action sci-fi movie is based on a 1973 Japanese animé of the same name (Shinzo Ningen Casshân). The theme song is by Utada Hikaru. When I first put this CD on and the first few tracks blared out of CD 1, I was tempted to rip it from the player. Tracks 1 through 4 and 8 sound like a cross of thrash, acid & techno punk. Even after two listens those tracks didn't do much for me. However the rest of CD 1 and all of CD 2 are much better and enjoyable. There are a few mellow vocals on CD 1 and the soundtrack music on CD 2 is mostly light and soothing to listen to. I have never seen the film so can't say how well the music relates to the visuals.
