REVIEW |
May 30, 2001 Tohru Fuyuki’s first score for the series follows the format established by Kunio Miyauchi of heroic theme songs and suspenseful motifs. Perhaps the greatest inspiration to the composer was the series itself, long heralded as perhaps the best (and most violent) of the Ultra series. More symphonic, less pop than Miyauchi’s music, Fuyuki’s approach is almost too adult for what was considered a children’s program. Then again, perhaps that was the key to it’s success, that no one working on the show thought of it that way. Stands up with some of the best genre film scores of the period. Followed by a second volume. -- David Hirsch |
