REVIEW |
April 05, 2002 This soundtrack is from the 1954 movie "Seven Samurai", one of my favorite Akira Kurosawa films and probably the best known of his films outside of Japan. The premise of this film has been used in many other films with probably the best being the 1960 U.S. movie "The Magnificent Seven" which is an adaptation of this film done as a western. "Seven Samurai" came out the same year as the first "Godzilla" film. The music in on this disc is mainly slow and has a dark texture about it. It does have a very catchy main theme that is repeated throughout the film. A few of the tracks contain pieces of dialogue and even horse noises. Also this disc is entirely in Mono which is probably to be expected considering it's age. The original masters for the music are probably long gone which is why most recordings of this music contain some dialogue. However, whatever the source was that was used for this disc, a great job has been done cleaning up the sound and this disc is the best I've heard of this material. |
