REVIEW |
October 23, 2006 After two movies without him in this new Godzilla series, Toho finally brings back Akira Ifukube for this 1991 movie. The old master still had that magic touch. Other than "Godzilla vs Mothra" that I have always been partial to, this is my favorite of the post 1990 soundtracks. This soundtrack contains a few nice new pieces along with some creative reworkings of things Mr. Ifukube has done before. The track, "The Garrison Charges", has a sound you'd expect to hear in an old U.S. Cowboy & Indian movie when the calvary comes charging to the rescue. The original single CD Futureland CD (TYCY-5362) had 39 tracks and the Emotion (BCCE-9001R-9002R) 2 CD set only contained a total of 30 tracks so here we have an additional 20 tracks not heard before. Of course they are mainly alternate takes of other titles but this is the best sounding and most complete set. Also those other CD's are nearly impossible to find since they have been out of print for a long time. Mr. Ifukube doesn't disappoint on this disc with many familiar Godzilla pieces and a great mix of marches and tempos. A very enjoyable CD in this set for sure. |
