REVIEW

November 5, 2000

This disc is the re-release of the original 1991 release FOCD-3140 located elsewhere on this site.

Tracks 1-3 were recorded live on Jan. 19, 1991 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space while track 4 was recorded live on Nov. 23, 1984 at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan.

This is a very good sounding CD of music by Akira Ifukube. A very good portion of the music on this disc is slow, dark and somewhat foreboding sounding.

Track #1 is mostly slow and relaxing. During this piece we get some very brief hints of familiar music that shows up in Ifukube's Kaiju scores. Track #2 starts out slow and reminded me of something that would be played during a night scene in a forest. At about the 5 minute mark the track picks up the pace and becomes very action oriented and familiar sounding. The pace will later slow down and pick up again. Some parts of this track sound as if they could have come from "King Kong vs Godzilla". Track #3 is also a slow paced track while Track # 4 is flat out great fast paced Godzilla music.

If you can find it or the rerelease FOCD-9086 , this would be a great addition for the Akira Ifukube music lover.
