Masaru Satoh (sometimes spelled Masaru Sato), was born May 29, 1928. He died at the age of 71 on Dec. 5, 1999. He was well known to Toho fans for his soundtracks to films such as Godzilla Raids Again (1955), Son of Godzilla (1967), Godzilla vs. Ebirah (1968), and Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla (1974), as well as H-Man and Half Human. Mr. Satoh was also well known for his scores to many Akira Kurosawa films including "The Lower Depths (1957), "The Hidden Fotress (1958), "Yojimbo" (1961), "Sanjuro" (1962) and others. Masaru Satoh was the youngest of six brothers, all of them music lovers. His models were two other composers born, as he was, on the northernmost Japanese island of Hokkaido: Akira Ifukube and Fumio Hayasaka.
